These thirty frames come from three days on the Shonan coast: 31 August, 6 September and 23 September 2025. All three run from late afternoon into the night, and in each one the camera turns away from the sea and toward the railway once the sun is down.

17:56, the sea is still bright

31 August starts at 17:56: 24mm, 1/200s, f7.1, ISO 100. People are still on the beach and there is light above the horizon.

Two minutes later, at 17:58, a moon over the water at 120mm, 1/160s, f10. Swapping between wide and long in the same spot gives you two unrelated pictures of the same minute.

18:21, three stops darker in twenty minutes

On 31 August, 18:21 is 1/20s and 18:25 is 1/4s. Two stops and more in four minutes. Just after sunset the light drops at that rate.

6 September does the same thing: 1/25s at 17:41, 1/25s at 18:02, 1/13s at 18:18, 1/6s at 18:21. The aperture opens from f22 all the way to f2.8 chasing it, and still does not keep up.

Enoshima looks like a different island by day

On 23 September I was on the island from 14:09: the monument stone, the stone steps under the torii, a flowerbed, the coastline seen from above. Nothing about the colour or the framing matches the island at dusk.

After a frame of the sea from high ground at 16:21 I left. That night I came back at 21:00 and photographed the island from the mainland.

After 18:31, out with the tripod

At 18:31 on 6 September the shutter is 0.4 seconds at ISO 400, which is past what you can hold. By 18:55 it is back to 1/10s, but only because the ISO went up.

At night the town lights land on the water. The three frames between 21:01 and 21:09 on 23 September are about that reflection.

19:14, over to the Enoden

The three frames from 19:14 to 19:19 on 6 September are all Enoden: 1/10s, 1/4s, 1/15s, at ISO 160 to 640. Crossing signals and platform lights are enough on their own.

All of it from public roads and stations, never from the track. What makes this coast easy is that when the sea stops working, another subject is standing right next to it. The station concourse at 17:04 and Inamuragasaki at 17:28 are from the same day.
