Sapporo, from red brick to Odori Park

What I point out on the way

Sho, your guide

I spent nine years in Brisbane, from junior high to the end of university, and I guide in English or Japanese. I check our food stops with each shop before the day.

The deck is 160 metres up, at Sapporo Station. It's open until 10:00 pm (last entry 9:30 pm) and costs 740 yen.

We meet at the South Exit of Sapporo Station, and I'll confirm the exact spot with you before the day. The Clock Tower is about 10 minutes on foot from the station, and about 5 from Odori Station.

South of the park, Tanuki-koji is a fully covered arcade of about 200 shops, around 900 metres long across seven blocks. It dates from 1873. Past it is Susukino, the city's entertainment district.

If it rains or snows, we go underground. Chi-Ka-Ho, a walkway of about 520 metres that opened in 2011, links Sapporo Station and Odori Station.

FAQ

Questions people ask

Can we do this in winter?

Yes. On snowy days we use Chi-Ka-Ho, the underground walkway between Sapporo Station and Odori Station. The Sapporo Snow Festival 2027 runs from 4 to 11 February 2027, at Odori, Susukino and Tsudome.

When do the plums bloom at Hiraoka Park?

Usually in early to mid May, but it varies by year. It's a spring-only option, so I'll check how the bloom is going before your date.
